It’s 7 am. Your alarm goes off, and all you want to do is stay in bed. We’ve all been there. The morning is such an important time for your skin, though, so it is important to take good care of it. That’s where we come in. In this post, we are going to walk you through how to create your perfect morning skincare routine that is easy enough to do while you are still a sleep-deprived zombie who hasn’t had their morning coffee.

Drink a Cup of Warm Lemon Water
First things first. Right when you wake up, drink a cup of warm lemon water. This will help jump start your digestion, which will give you natural energy. The lemon also has natural properties which will boost your skin’s glow and make you appear more radiant throughout the day. Hydration is also crucial to having good skin, so drinking water first thing in the morning will help you get a jump on your water consumption.
Wash your Face With a Gentle Cleanser
Next, wash your face with a gentle cleanser. Depending on your skin type, you will want to find a cleanser that works best for you. For oily skin we recommend a lighter, more water-based cleanser, such as the Neutrogena Hydro Boost cleanser. For dry skin we recommend a more creamy, hydrating cleanser, such as the Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration cream cleanser. For acne-prone skin we recommend finding a cleanser that treats breakouts while making sure your skin stays hydrated, such as the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Medicated gel cleanser. We recommend washing your face with warm water to open your pores and applying your cleanser in circular motions for 10-60 seconds before washing it off with colder water to close your pores.
Tone your Face with a Toner
The next step is to tone your face. Now that you’ve washed your face, it’s important to make sure you fully close your pores and remove any excess makeup, oil, or product buildup that may not have completely washed off your face from the cleanser. Toning your face will help remove these things and prepare your face for the rest of the products you will be applying. We recommend a gentle toner such as the Thayer’s Rose Witch Hazel toner that is appropriate for all skin types.
Apply a Moisturizer and SPF 30
The final step is to apply a moisturizer and sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. This will help seal in your skin’s moisture and help protect you from the sun. For drier skin types, we recommend a thicker moisturizer such as the Glossier Primer Rich paired with their Invisible Shield sunscreen. For oilier skin, we recommend a lighter moisturizer such as the Neutrogena Hydro Boost moisturizer with the Glossier Invisible Shield sunscreen. Sunscreen only lasts for 2-3 hours, so it is important to reapply throughout the day. The Glossier sunscreen is perfect for this because it is clear and adds a little glow to the skin.
